First Revision Treatment Plan

Recalibrate and chart a course. This is the list of things to-do while gearing up for the first revision of a first draft.

  • Review notes (from writing and read-through).
  • Organize relevant problem list from notes.
  • Properly name scene titles - add descriptions if you want. Print out overview.
  • Diagnostic and emotional rhythm charts.
  • Compare to beat sheets (optional).
  • Character exit interviews (optional).
  • Analyze charts and scene lists.
  • Finalize a problem list.
  • Formulate a treatment plan.
You will likely need to add missing scenes, cut scenes and dropped ideas, thread in missing elements, even transplant scenes. Problem list becomes your to-do list. Triage, as in fix the largest issues first the things that you can't stop your mind from telling you that there is something off about.

After the initial triage you can make another revision pass using a revision map.

As always with revisions work macro (large) to micro (small). There is absolutely no point in wasting your time line editing until you reach the micro stage.
